The rediscovery of an area and a winemaking tradition with more than 300 years behind it
Together with Chianti, Pomino and Carmignano, Valdarno di Sopra was included by Cosimo III de' Medici within his famous decree classifying these areas as the best and most suitable for the production of great wines with the need, even then (1716!), to protect them from forgeries. In the last century the wines produced in the Valdarno di Sopra were gradually grouped together under the name "Chianti" without, however, doing justice to the particularity of the place. Thus in 2011 the DOC Valdarno di Sopra was finally born.
Today, the Denomination extends between the plain of Arezzo and the Florentine Hills, in an area protected by the Apennines and their temperate and cold climate during winter and by the Mediterranean climate that, especially in summer, allows the creation of that ideal ecosystem for the good ripening of grapes that makes this territory extremely suitable for the production of fine wines. Today, the DOC Valdarno di Sopra is represented by a niche of producers focused on the production of high quality wines with native varieties (Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Malvasia etc.) but not only (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc etc.), which are already finding awards and appreciation not only in Italy but also abroad. All this bodes well for an area that finally deserves to be reborn!
Maximum respect for nature, the earth and its cycles. This is the philosophy with which we give life to all our products.
Two large vineyards that are a symbol of our estate. The first, Sangiovese, is traditional and rooted in this territory. The second, rare and precious Manzoni blend, on the other hand, represents energy, enthusiasm and passion of Meca and Rocco.
